A few things I am thankful for this year:
- Having a career that is both challenging (sometimes too much) and incredibly fulfilling. Being able to provide for myself as a result.
- My sister, who is growing into a remarkable woman and is one of my dearest friends.
- My urban family who will always be close no matter how scattered across the globe we may be. Our comfort with being complete dorks around each other (even if it has to be via gchat or webcam).
- Living during the internet revolution. Facebook and the connectivity it provides with important people in my life like my sister, urban family, and somewhat long lost cousins. The ability to put my small ideas out there and know that someone might read them without being guilted into it. Craigslist, for connecting me with two dorky-cool (this is the ultimate compliment) guys who are some of the best roommates a young woring girl could ask for.
- The note from my ex who is now a close friend. Knowing that future relationships that end will not necessarily be “failed” and that I am surrounding myself with worthwhile people.
- Spending every workday in a National Park, even if it doesn’t always feel like it. Having access on a daily basis to the incredible resources of San Francisco and the Bay Area in general.
- Discovering that my high school online journal still exists so I can download all of the entries sometime before they are completely lost. No you can’t have the link and you won’t find it by googling me.
- Everything that is home–my apartment, my neighborhood, San Francisco, Stanford, California, and the West in general.
- Music.
- As Jennifer Westfeldt so aptly put it, “this city and in this world we live in. This huge and wondrous, bewildering, brilliant, horrible world.”
